![]() ![]() Hence, my reporting them – a PSA for others who may be searching like I was for consideration. I can give them that.Īnd the time spent on the front end for that “superior result” and again on the backend was enormous compared to the 7-Zip results – all with equivalent settings between the two apps.Īgain, not much out there that clued anyone into any of these kinds of problems. Perhaps it was the contents of my files vs the ones they tested. There were plenty web resources to say that PeaZip had superior results when compressing. I put this out there because when I searched this site and across the web, there was very little said about any of the issues I pointed out. peazip, Peazip Limitations, No support of file editing from inside of Archive. If nothing else, that PeaZip could not unarchive one (in my case – several) of its own creations, that alone makes it unusable. Now you can fire peazip from any location, just by typing peazip at the command prompt. I’d love to upload the files for anyone to test, but alas, private. TYVM!ĭude, I wish I had “scientifically” studied this with screen captures and all. But also when creating batch jobs – easy PEAsey with 7-Zip. So, good luck trying to troubleshoot problems like the one I mentioned. It didn’t help that the documentation was lacking vs the loads of info for 7-Zip. Peazip command line how to#Then, out of the box, 7-Zip interface was way more intuitive, presenting files in the same folder tree format that Windows File Explorer does, rather than one big bag of individual files (I might have figured out how to customize that, if there were such options, but for the first problem). This file compressor allows you to decompress files from virtually any compressed file format, but for licensing reasons it can only compress to the following formats: 7z, ZIP, GZIP, BZIP2, TAR, WIM and XZ. Uncompression was ORDERS of magnitude slower than 7-Zip. Translated into 87 languages, including Spanish. I was compressing Terabytes of files – 10s of 1000s of them. Never did have an issue with 7-Zip (well before or since that time) – ROCK SOLID.įurthermore, it was MUCH slower than 7-Zip when I used maximum compression settings. Peazip command line Pc#I didn’t mention what my pc specs were when running those compressions:īottom line was that I was SHOCKED that PeaZip couldn’t unzip some of the files IT created. Reason: modified script to run just a bit better Last edited by Jeff Sadowski 13th October 2016 at 10:12 PM. I'll keep this thread informed of progress. I have used it successfully with scanimage to show the progress of scanning. Proc_open when used as above usually acts the same as running on the commandline. When I run "php zip.php" it doesn't output the expected. Only because I have relatively small files I decided so far to use this method ![]() Peazip command line zip#Maybe there is a commandline program that can display its progress on creating a zip file? ![]() I found peazip for linux and its gui shows progress. Would be accurate as gzip is getting the original data all rolled through pv thus it can expect the size of data passed through it to be equal to the size of the directory. Zip -qr - | pv -s $(du -bs | awk '') | gzip -9 > I saw on a page somewhere piping zip through pv like so I was thinking maybe using the command line "zip" program from php but even it lacks any kind of progress indicator. I am pretty familiar with php and know how to have php continue without being interrupted from a browser disconnecting.īut I don't see any option as to how to see the progress with those methods. I found in php two php methods of zipping a fileĪs far as I can tell neither of these ways allow me to get the progress. I want to display the progress of zipping a folder with files into a windows zip file. ![]()
